‘A really great path’: Deanna Exley of Alberta Newsprint Company on #WomenInForestry

Deanna Exley is in a role at Alberta Newsprint Company that not many people outside the pulp and paper industry understand – and she says that if they did, they just might be interested in it.

In a video for the Alberta Forest Products Association (AFPA)’s recent #WomenInForestry social media campaign, Exley shares what she does as a reliability engineer for the paper mill.

She says that while many women are excellent problem solvers, they haven’t been shown how they can apply those skills in industries like forestry.

“A lot of females maybe didn’t have the opportunity to understand what mechanical engineering is when they were young,” she says in the below clip. “I didn’t even know that mechanical engineering would be a really great path for myself.”

“We need to be targeting young young kids so they can understand what might be a good path for them.”
